⋅A severe weather threat looms over Andhra Pradesh as a deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal strengthens into Cyclone Montha, the first major storm of this season. The cyclone approaches landfall today. Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been placed on high alert, prompting preventive evacuations and extensive post-landfall preparedness measures. IMD officials have cautioned about rough sea conditions along the Andhra coast from Nellore to Srikakulam, with wave heights expected between 2 and 4.7 metres as the weather system strengthens into a cyclonic storm on Tuesday morning. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain across most parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in some areas and extremely heavy downpours at isolated locations till October 29.
